Sugar cane Seeds (Saccharum officinarum)

Sugar cane is the largest provider of raw material for sugar and is now grown in tropical areas such as Brazil and India which are the largest producers in the world market. In the Middle Ages its cultivation was located in the Mediterranean area and distributed to Europe as an essential product.

In addition to the production of sugar derivatives, sugar cane is currently used for the production of "biodiesel", cosmetics and also for the pharmaceutical industry.

Also because this plant is a decorative and durable variety this year in the garden we did some tests of :

• First, we obtained a high rate of seed germination (origin: Mexico), plants grew at a consistent rate and reached a height of about 2m in pots (5L) but ideally should use large pots of at least 20L.

• At temperatures of approx. 5 ° C, the leaves of the plants withered but now in March (In an unheated greenhouse) they have sprouted again of their rhizomes.
